Aluminum Architectural Details in former Shushan Airport

New Orleans former Shushan Airport contains a wealth of architectural Art Deco details.  For interior pictures during the 1930s and vintage post card images, see the link at the Restoration of New Orleans Lakefront Airport.
This stairwell post reminds me of a miniature Empire State Building.

Awesome pictures of the interior during reconstruction. I can only imagine the surprise when the features were revealed.

Yes, there were some interesting moments, I am sure! However, apparently, when they put that big concrete and steel box around it, they did it with an eye to the preservation of those details. While they did remove the top portion of the exterior frieze sculptures, they were recreated during the renovation.
