Little River at Elkmont

Little River at Elkmont, in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The bridge was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps, completed 1936-1937.  You can read more about the Elkmont Bridge at Suzassippi: Red Shutters.

Beautiful pictures! The things that the Civilian Conservation Corps constructed were built to last. It's amazing how many beautiful walls, shelters, buildings, etc. they build that are still in existence after all these years.

Thank you, Sheryl. You might enjoy the Living New Deal series. It is part of a project of the University of California, Berkeley to document ever New Deal structure in the US, all in one place. I've been working with them for a couple of years. It is livingnewdeal.org if you want to check it out. You can look at all the locations by state/city, and find out what is near you!
